This thesis develops as a main topic the children's participation at the initial level in schools. Its general objective is to expose teachers' perceptions on child participation in the second cycle of the initial level of an educational institution in Lima. Likewise, it has three specific objectives. The first one consists of identifying teachers' perceptions on the conceptualization of child participation in the second cycle of the initial level of a private IE in Lima. The second seeks to identify teachers' perceptions of the aspects that favor child participation in the second cycle of the initial level of a private IE in Lima. And the last one, aims to identify teachers' perceptions about the limiting aspects of children's participation in the second cycle of the initial level of a private IE in Lima. It is based on a descriptive qualitative methodology, using a semi-structured interview as a data collection technique. Regarding the perceptions collected from teachers, it was found that, although they are familiar with the concept of child participation, their understanding of it is limited and does not cover the totality of what it implies, focusing only on freedom of expression and respect for opinions. Likewise, they consider that child participation can only occur orally and only when they require it. They also find the inclusion of children with special educational needs (SEN) in the institutions as a limiting factor when they want to develop participation in their students. As a solution to these findings, it is proposed to train teachers on how to encourage participation in their students and on working with children with special educational needs (SEN) who are non-verbal, so that teachers can apply strategies to integrate them into the participatory exercise in their classrooms.
