The development of comprehensive and expressive vocabulary marks an important milestone for language development; without vocabulary the various components of language are affected. The objective of this research is to determine the impact of the implementation of techniques on the lexical-semantic component, vocabulary content, both expressive and comprehensive, in children from a private school of regular basic education at the initial level. A study with a quantitative approach, of an applied type, was carried out and a quasi-experimental design was developed. The sample consisted of 31 students belonging to the 3, 4 and 5 year old classrooms. The Gardner Figure- Word Test (adapted) was applied to measure the level of vocabulary before and after the techniques were applied. The data were analyzed with the SPSS program. Among the main findings, it is evident that there is a significant group of students who have difficulties in vocabulary at the comprehensive and expressive level; and that when teachers apply techniques in their pedagogical work, they improve the students' capacity in comprehensive and expressive vocabulary. It is worth highlighting that the techniques were accompanied by visual material, which enhanced comprehension and expression. It is concluded that it is necessary for teachers to be trained in the use of specific techniques to improve the vocabulary conditions of students; and that these techniques must be accompanied by manipulative and/or visual material to generate a greater impact.
