97.1%, y sexto grado: 91.7%), sintáctico (quinto grado: 97.1%, y sexto grado: 97.2%), y
muestra investigada.
The main objective of the study is to determine the relationship between receptive vocabulary and reading comprehension in 5th and 6th grade students from a private school in the district of Barranco. The type of research is basic, quantitative, correlational and its design belongs to the non-experimental cross-sectional study. 70 students from the fifth and sixth grades of primary education from a private educational institution in the Barranco district participate. The instruments used are the PEABODY Picture Vocabulary Test and the Reading Processes Evaluation Battery (PROLEC-R). The descriptive results about receptive vocabulary indicate that both fifth grade and sixth grade students predominantly present an expected level, with 58.8% and 58.3%, respectively; regarding the perceptual process, it was found that in fifth grade (97.1%) and sixth grade (97.2%) students, the majority presented normal development; the normal level also predominates in lexical processes (fifth grade: 97.1%, and sixth grade: 91.7%), syntactic (fifth grade: 97.1%, and sixth grade: 97.2%), and semantic (fifth grade: 79.4%, and sixth grade: 72.2%). Likewise, the inferential results show that there are only significant correlations between receptive vocabulary and high-level processes (syntactic: rs = .261, p = .029; semantic: rs = .262, p = .029). In conclusion, receptive vocabulary is significantly related only to the syntactic and semantic processes of reading comprehension in the students of the investigated sample.
