Análisis y desafíos del mango congelado del Perú en el mercado de Estados Unidos 2020-2025

Resumen
El Perú es uno de los principales países exportadores de mango congelado a Estados Unidos,
destacando la variedad Kent por su sabor, cualidades organolépticas y beneficios
nutricionales y el cual se debe a las condiciones geográficas que permiten obtener frutas
exportables de alta calidad en las regiones de Piura, Ancash y Lambayeque. Las
exportaciones del mango congelado peruano a los Estados Unidos han tenido un crecimiento
en volumen del 180.5% entre agosto del 2024 y agosto del 2025. Además, el 42% de las
exportaciones se destinan al mercado de Estados Unidos, con un crecimiento anual del 23%.
Ante la tendencia del crecimiento por el consumo de mango congelado y las ventajas que
tiene este producto, el presente estudio de investigación plantea el análisis y desafíos del
mango congelado del Perú en el mercado de Estados Unidos 2020-2025, donde se identifica
los factores y estrategias que permitan el crecimiento para la exportación.
Dentro de los hallazgos se determinó la extensión de la temporada de cosecha del mango
fresco, la profundización de la promoción del mango congelado, la creación de una marca
peruana, la penetración en nuevos nichos de alto poder adquisitivo y los canales Hoteles,
Restaurantes y Catering HORECA. El estudio propone la aplicación de estrategias como la
integración vertical de fundos y minoristas, lanzamiento de nuevos productos innovadores
con valor agregado, inversión en Capex en ampliación en salas congelamiento (IQF) y
automatización de las líneas de proceso, con la participación del estado, agricultores,
exportadores y empacadores, entidades gremiales como Asociación Peruana de Productores y
Exportadores de Mango [AMPEM], Asociación de Productores de Mango [PROMANGO] y
National Mango Board [NMB], los cuales tienen un rol determinante para impulsar el
desarrollo e incremento de las exportaciones peruanas de mango congelado a Estados Unidos.
Peru is one of the leading exportes of frozen mangoes to the United States, with the Kent variety standing out for its flavor, organoleptic qualities, and nutritional benefits. This is due to the geographical conditionsthat allow for high-quality exportable Fruit to be grown in the regions of Piura, Ancash, and Lambayeque. Exports of frozen Peruvian mangoes to the United States grew by 180.5% in volume between August 2024 and August 2025. In addition, 42% of exports are destined for the US market, with annual growth of 23%. Given the growth trend in frozen mango consumption and the advantages of this product, this research study analyzes the challenges facing Peruvian frozen mangoes in the US market between 2020 and 2025, identifying the factors and strategies that will enable export growth. Among the findings, the study determined the extension of the fresh mango harvest season, the intensification of frozen mango promotion, the creation of a Peruvian brand, and penetration into new high-income niches and the HORECA (hotels, restaurants, and catering) channels. The study proposes the application of strategies such as vertical integration of farms and retailers, the launch of innovative new products with added value, investment in Capex to expand freezing rooms (IQF) and automation of processing lines, whith the participation, of the state, faermers, exporters, and packers, trade associations such as the Peruvian Association of Mango Producer and Exportes [APEM] the Association of Mango Producers [PROMANGO], and the National Mango Board [NMB], all of which play a decisive role in promoting the development and increase of Peruvian frozen mango exports to the United States.
