The present research work involves the evaluation of the influence of base seismic isolation in a building that exhibits irregularity due to discontinuity of vertical elements. This investigation arose from the scarcity of information and studies on the use of isolators in buildings with structural irregularities. Most studies have focused on evaluating the performance of regular buildings with isolators. Furthermore, of the limited information available on studies of irregular buildings with isolators, most pertain to plan irregularities, such as torsional irregularity, diaphragm discontinuity, among others. The methodology of this work is organized into four stages. First, the architecture and subsequently the arrangement of the building's structure to be used for this study are defined. Additionally, the number of floors, the use of the building, and the geotechnical conditions are determined. Second, the modeling of the building is carried out considering it as a fixed-base structure. Then, seismic analysis is performed using the equivalent static force method and the modal spectral method. Third, the properties of the isolation system, the arrangement of the isolators, the treatment of records are calculated, and seismic analysis is performed using the methods used for the fixed-base building, and additionally, performing the time-history dynamic analysis. Finally, a comparative analysis of the results obtained for both the fixed-base and isolated buildings is conducted.
