Abstract
This research aims to establish if there are any differences in the comprehensive and expressive vocabulary development in children of two private educational institutions, according to sex, age and place of origin (Lima and Tarapoto). It is justified because it provides information about the impact that the geographic context has over the development of comprehensive and expressive vocabulary, as we know that vocabulary is also influenced by social and environmental factors. Also, there is no register of other comparative investigations done under these variables, specifically in the rainforest region of the country, so it serves as a precedent for other investigations. The scientific sample is composed of 150 children, of both sexes, who are between 6 and 8 years old, 75 from each city. To measure the variables, we use the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test III and the Gardner - Expressive Vocabulary – Adapted Test. The results show that there are significant differences in the development of comprehensive and expressive vocabulary according to age and place of origin, but not in relation to the sex of the children that participated in this investigation.
