In the last decade, Beca 18 has established itself as one of the most important public policies in Peru, providing access to higher education for young people in poverty or social vulnerability. In 2014, with the participation and support of representatives of Amazonian Indigenous peoples, the Beca 18 Amazonian Native Communities modality was created. This thesis seeks to answer the question: How does university influence the identity of Amazonian Indigenous youth who have exercised their right to higher education? To this end, the life history method has been used. Given that one of the central topics of this study is discrimination in Peru, the research delves into the concrete experiences of the scholarship recipients in this modality. One of the most significant findings is that university contributes to the revaluation and strengthening of an Indigenous identity that had been consistently undervalued throughout basic education. Thus, one of the main contributions of this study lies in the knowledge generated from the firsthand testimonies of the protagonists of these stories. These are stories of success in higher education, in which the family and community play a fundamental role, along with the support of university authorities and professors. This leads us to relate, for this study population, the strengthening of identity with academic achievement.
