bloqueos, conflictos socioambientales y sanciones regulatorias.
deseabilidad, factibilidad, viabilidad y sostenibilidad.
The MINDUST Project addresses a critical issue in the mining sector of southern Peru: the high generation of particulate matter (PM10) resulting from the transit of mineral transport vehicles on unpaved mining corridors. This directly impacts the health of drivers and local communities, social coexistence, and operational efficiency. If left unaddressed, this situation poses significant environmental, logistical, and social challenges, potentially leading to road blockages, socio-environmental conflicts, and regulatory penalties. A Design Thinking approach was adopted to systematically map the needs of key stakeholders. As a result, the MINDUST tank was designed—an intelligent and modular watering system integrated into the chassis of the vehicle (semi-trailer), activated from the cabin by the driver as needed. It features a 500-gallon capacity and is built to withstand demanding mining conditions. Throughout the development of the product and business model, four key dimensions were validated: desirability, feasibility, viability, and sustainability. From a financial perspective, MINDUST yields a Net Present Value (NPV) of S/ 1’160,000 and an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 611.66%, demonstrating its economic viability and long-term sustainability. In social terms, the solution shows significant impact, achieving a social NPV (sNPV) of S/ 1’439,308 by contributing directly to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11, 12, and 15. The product not only contributes to the reduction of air pollution, but also strengthens relationships with local communities and reinforces the image of mining companies as responsible agents of change. The validated design and business model confirm that MINDUST is ready for gradual implementation, starting with the most critical segments of the southern mining corridor. The strategic decision is to move forward with its commercialization as a scalable solution with positive environmental impact and high-perceived value for users and stakeholders in the mining sector.
