Abstract
This correlational quantitative research has examined the link between emotional intelligence and the leadership styles of banking managers in Peru. 102 bank managers where considered as a sample, and they where asked to respond an adapted BarOn EQ-i questionnaire by Ugarriza, to determine emotional intelligence; and a MLQ 5X-Short questionnaire, to determine leadership styles (transformational, transactional and passive-avoidant) and leadership performance variables (extra-efforts, effectiveness and satisfaction). In this study, a mid positive correlation was determined between emotional intelligence and the transformational leadership style of managers that formed part of the research. Also, there was no evidence of a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and transactional leadership style. On the other hand, there was a weak negative link between emotional intelligence and passive-avoidant leadership style. Results also showed a mid positive link between emotional intelligence and leadership performance variables. In this research, no evidence of gender differences where shown in emotional intelligence and leadership styles measurements.
