Abstract
The purpose of the present investigation was to adapt an on-line, self-help Acceptance and Commitment Therapy intervention and measure its effects on the subjective wellbeing of adults from Metropolitan Lima. This investigation had two different studies, the first one being an experimental one, in which participants were randomly assigned to a waiting-list control condition (N=24) and to an online intervention condition (N=24). Their scores were compared before and after the intervention’s first week. The second study consisted of a pre-experimental design, in which the various scores of a single group (N=7), were measured weekly during 3 weeks and then compared. The instruments used in this study were the Scale of Positive and Negative Experiences (SPANE), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and the Subjective Life Satisfaction Scale for Metropolitan Lima. An increase in negative affect was found after the first intervention week of the pre-experimental study. Moreover, high desertion rates were found. The possible motives for desertion rates were analysed by comparing the variable scores of participants that left the intervention with those who stayed after each week. Although results suggest that an online Acceptance and Commitment Therapy based intervention may be feasible in Metropolitan Lima, there is still need for better cultural adaptations of the model, as well as further research on how to improve treatment adherence.
