Abstract
The pay television service is a medium that can contribute to the access of entertainment, cultural, educational and news audiovisual content. In some regions of the country where the coverage of the open signal is non-existent or of insufficient quality, it constitutes a means that allows some households to access said content. In this regard, the study of the determinants of the demand for access to said service has received little academic interest, so this research aims to fill that gap based on the information from the Residential Survey of Telecommunications Services - ERESTEL 2019. A based on this information, empirical evidence has been collected that not only allows knowing the characteristics of the demand for this service, but also serves as an input for the design of public policies that promote its expansion for the benefit of the population. In particular, the hypothesis has been postulated that the demand for access to the pay tv service of peruvian households is influenced by economic and socioeconomic variables and is highly correlated with access to other telecommunications services, in particular, the Internet. The results found corroborate the influence of social and economic factors in the demand for access to pay tv service as well as its correlation with access to other telecommunications services. These results suggest that public policies that seek to expand the demand for access to this service are conditioned by these socioeconomic variables as well as by access to other telecommunications services.
