Abstract
This thesis addresses the phenomenon of homophobia suffered by Peruvians of African descent from subordinate masculinities residing in metropolitan Lima and Callao, seeking to understand how ethnic-racial ancestry and the expression of gender of this population characterize this problem. The study focuses on the public dimension of masculinity and, in this sense, two organizing axes are proposed: how gender is made visible and the space in which it is made visible socially. It is found that ethnic-racial ancestry has an impact on how the masculinity of this population is perceived and expected, which originates in the historical imaginary of the Afro-descendant population in the region. This situation occurs above all in society, that is, in the general population and not within the families of these men. Likewise, within the gay community, these men also feel stereotyped because of their ethnic-racial ancestry, since they are assigned behaviors, sexual roles, and others because of their status as black men. The expression of gender, on the other hand, is a factor that is discovered, they learn in life to manage it according to their needs, since it becomes a survival strategy. This is related to the general condition of popular origin, from the neighborhood, which gave these men an experience that was both quite rich, but difficult to navigate in this metropolis made up of metropolitan Lima and Callao.
