Abstract
SIDERPERU is a company that belongs to the Gerdau S.A. group, known worldwide as one of the main steel suppliers, since its products are marketed on five continents and serve the civil construction, industry, mining, agricultural and automotive sectors. This business consulting aims to determine what caused the loss related to the metric weight of the product in the manufacturing process of construction bars, especially with the need to approach -6% without leaving the NTP341.031 G60 Standard in order to optimize the use of raw material. In order to identify this problem, it was necessary to hold meetings between the group of consultants and the managers related to the manufacturing process of the construction bars, as well as the design of different matrices and the Ishikawa Diagram to show the causes found. It was determined that the lack of training in criteria for the use of the NTP 341.031 G60 Standard of the operators to apply the work methodology when there are variations in the processes, the old equipment, the inefficient use of raw material and the manual control of the calibration were the main causes of the problem. Three solution alternatives were designed, which were: (a) automation of the process through security alarms; (b) modernization of production equipment with advanced technologies; and (c) staff training in new technologies (technical training, evaluations, technical reinforcement). For the implementation of these options, an investment of $300,000 is required, which would be recovered in three months and 13 days, in addition to confirming the economic viability of the project by obtaining a Net Present Value (NPV) of $5’967,247.33 or S/ 23’749,644.37, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 359% and a Benefit / Cost indicator of 20.89.
