Abstract

In both age groups, the Parent Questionnaire About Speech Background (CEG) was applied first and then they were assessed using the Orofacial Myofunctional Protocol (MBGR). Features of Andean Spanish were not considered as a speech disorder. The results show that most of the children have adequate speech development. However, 21% of six-year-old and 10% of seven-year-old children present difficulties. The main speech disorder is of skeletal muscle origin, followed by the phonetic-phonological origin. Distortions are the most frequent disorders in the sample.
