It is known that markets are not only places of supply and economic exchange, but also engines of social and cultural relations. The commercial growth of the city of San Vicente de Cañete, located south of Lima, brought with it the projection of a new retail Market designed by the architect Miguel Ángel Llona in 1971. This promoted the integration of the building with its citizens, dignified the profession of merchants, and connected to the water and ecological networks of the Pócoto irrigation canal. However, the current retail commercial sector is totally different from that original plan. Market stalls proliferated spontaneously, forming a degraded, slum-like urban space with structures declared at risk of collapse. Under these conditions, the aim is to generate a new retail infrastructure that recognizes immediate urban-ecological context and integrates a commercial facility capable of adapting to current needs. This will be achieved using strategies derived from the study of the project from the Llona Documentary Fund, part of Archivo de Arquitectura PUCP. As a result, an open and permeable market will be created, configured from a multipurpose square; with complementary uses that enrich comercial, social, cultural and educational activities; and that restores the relationship of the commercial space with its urban and ecological environment.
