Abstract
In this work, electronic properties are determined, such as chemical potential, (μ), molecular hardness (η), Fukui index, f(r), electrophilicity index (ω) and nucleophilicity index (N), in series of: para-substituted phenols, 5-substituted indoles and 2,5- bisubstituted bicyclic[2.2.1]hepta-2,5-dienes. The data were obtained using methods derived from the Density Functional Theory (DFT), using the hybrid functional B3LYP, and the basis set: 6-31G(d), 6-311G(d) and 6-311++G(dp,df). The nucleophilicity index (N) has been obtained from its relationship to the highest occupied molecular orbital energy (HOMO) within the kohn-Sham scheme approximation. The index considered represents well the nucleophilic behavior of organic molecules that have a simple substitution, and in complex molecules that simultaneously show electrophilic and nucleophilic behaviors. Electrostatic potential surfaces are used to compare the results of electrophilic and nucleophilic behaviors of molecules.
