autoridad municipal.
The main objective of this research is to understand the community participation of rural women in the development of their community. The participants in this study are women of legal age who have held formal and/or representative positions within their community and/or are currently holding them. The research was carried out in two villages in the Cáceres district of Peru, Colcap and Jimbe. The research is qualitative in nature and the data was collected through in-depth interviews, using a semi-structured guide and a field diary. The research has focused on women's understanding of participation, which is based on their life experience and interaction with other members of their community. Through their narratives it has been possible to identify the spaces, types and factors of participation that are present in their community. The full participation of women has not yet been achieved; the weight of gender roles and stereotypes continues to hinder the progress of women from jimbeñas and colcapinas towards equality; it has also exposed them to situations of violence and the non-recognition of their contribution to the development of their communities. They are convinced of women's ability to overcome difficulties and are optimistic about the probability that a woman will lead the district as municipal authority.
