imposible salir.
This thesis will analyse the way in which Kim Kardashian (Los Angeles, California, 1980) has constructed her celebrity. The main hypothesis is that this process is inseparable from the mechanisms of late-stage capitalism. From that, I will argue that Kim Kardashians’ cultural object is herself. She becomes, thus, a commodity, with a role and a material impact on the market. In order to do so, I will analyse, at first, the way in which Kardashian has constructed her public image, taking into account the emphasis, in a neoliberal context, of her individuality, as well the fact that her life has become a spectacle. In that sense, I will underline how her own body as well as her discourse around her sexuality and beauty are crossed by capitalists’ mechanisms. Lastly, I will demonstrate, based on the effect that Kardashians has, specially from social media, in the audience, that celebrity culture is one of the ways in which the capitalist structure solidifies itself into a reality, from which it seems impossible to escape.
