Abstract
This thesis is a precedent for new research where we can deepen the relationship between the exposure to oral narratives by parents and their children´scomprehensive vocabulary. On the other hand, there are very few previous comparative studies conducted under these variables, so it will be stablished as a background for further studies. The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between exposure to oral narratives by parents and the comprehensivevocabulary in children from 5 years to 5 years 11 months from “Institución Educativa Inicial 536 Amiguitos de Jesus”, located in Santiago de Surco (Lima). The sample is composed by 70 children, of both genders, whose ages fluctuate between 5 years and 5 years 11 months. To measure the variables, we use the Vocabulary Test in images of PEABOY PPVT III, and a quiz of exposure to oral narratives by the parents. The results prove that there is a statistically relationship between the variables: exposure to oral narratives by parents and the comprehensivevocabulary. In addition, there is a correlation between the three types of supportingmaterials (books and sheets, puppets and/or toys and audiovisual materials) and thecomprehensive vocabulary. Furthermore, correlation is found between two types of oral narrative (stories and fables) and comprehensive vocabulary; on the contrary, this significant relationship does not exist when referring to the types of narrative (legends and anecdotes) and the comprehensive vocabulary.
