Los factores de riesgos que limitan el desarrollo del gas natural en el Perú: ¿Deben ser informados en los reportes sostenibles?

Abstract

La crisis energética de las energías fósiles, incluido el gas natural, está enfrentando problemas medioambientales y de sostenibilidad. En consecuencia, las empresas del sector gas natural, no solo deben enfrentar los desafíos que comprometen su continuidad, sino que esta situación debe ser de conocimiento de las partes interesadas. Por ello, en esta investigación se busca identificar y describir los factores de riesgo que limitan el desarrollo de gas natural, así como las estrategias para mitigarlas y su relación con la divulgación en los reportes de sostenibilidad. Para ello, se ha revisado literatura vinculada a temas de “gas natural”, “energías fósiles”, “energías renovables”, “biogás”, “reportes sostenibles”, entre otros, que ha permitido desarrollar la investigación. El diseño de la investigación es cualitativo y la métodologia utilizada es un case study múltiple que permite analizar el fenómeno de estudio. Las empresas que conforman la muestra son Limagas Natural y EVA Energy. Con los datos recopilados y analizados, se obtuvieron como resultados que los principales factores de riesgo son el agotamiento de las energías fósiles, la contaminación del medioambiente, los acuerdos internacionales que restringen el uso de energías fósiles y las energías alternativas que buscan desplazar a las energías tradicionales. Entre las principales estrategias para mitigar los riesgos está el uso de energías alternativas, la que más se asemeja al gas natural es el biogás. Finalmente, tanto los riesgos como las estrategias pueden ser divulgados mediante los reportes no financieros; esto permite a las empresas ser transparentes y brindar una información integra a los stakeholders.

The energy crisis of fossil fuels, including natural gas, is facing environmental and sustainability problems. Consequently, companies in the natural gas sector must not only face the challenges that compromise their continuity, but this situation must also be made known to the stakeholders. Therefore, this research seeks to identify and describe the risk factors that limit the development of natural gas, as well as the strategies to mitigate them and their relationship with disclosure in sustainability reports. To this end, literature linked to topics of “natural gas,” “fossil energies,” “renewable energies,” “biogas,” and “sustainable reports,” among others, has been reviewed, which has allowed the research to be developed. The research design is qualitative, and the methodology used is a multiple case study that allows the study phenomenon to be analyzed. The companies that make up the sample are Limagas Natural and EVA Energy. With the data collected and analyzed, the results were obtained that the main risk factors are the depletion of fossil energies, environmental pollution, international agreements that restrict the use of fossil energies and alternative energies that seek to displace traditional energies. Among the main strategies to mitigate risks is the use of alternative energies; the one that most closely resembles natural gas is biogas. Finally, both risks and strategies can be disclosed through non-financial reports; this allows companies to be transparent and provide comprehensive information to stakeholders.
