Abstract
La Universidad Continental (UC), es una institución educativa de nivel superior
creada en la ciudad de Huancayo en junio de 1998, sus objetivos estratégicos son: (a)
crecimiento y significación de mercado, (b) efectividad operacional, (c) posicionamiento
nacional, y (d) creación de opciones relevantes de formación para un grupo heterogéneo de
estudiantes. La UC, cuenta con tres unidades de negocio: pregrado, posgrado, y centro de
idiomas. Actualmente, tiene presencia en las ciudades de Huancayo, Lima, Arequipa y
Cusco; y su oferta académica está enfocada en los sectores C y D. El objetivo de esta
consultoría de negocios consistió en determinar el problema clave que no permite que la
Universidad Continental alcance sus objetivos estratégicos. En tal sentido, se logró identificar
que el problema clave gira entorno a la falta de consolidación de la modalidad A Distancia.
Con el soporte e infomación proporcionada por la UC, se determinó que las causas raíz del
problema están relacionadas a una serie de dificultades que presentan los siguientes factores:
(a) estudiantes; (b) docentes, tutores y mentores; (c) actividad académica; y (d)
infraestructura tecnológica. Posteriormente, en base al análisis interno y externo de la UC, se
plantea un conjunto de propuestas de solución que le permitan consolidar su modalidad A
Distancia. Las propuestas de solución se presentan en un plan de implementación, que cuenta
con un espacio temporal de dos años, el costo estimado de S/. 9’278,299 y factores claves
para su éxito. Finalmente, se exponen los resultados esperados y los efectos positivos de
éstos, sobre la rentabilidad de la organización.
Universidad Continental (UC), is a higher level educational institution founded at Huancayo´s City by 1998 June. It has four strategic objectives: (a) growth and market significance, (b) operational effectiveness, (c) national positioning, and (d) creation of relevant training options for a heterogeneous group of students. Universidad Continental has three main branches business: undergraduate, postgraduate and language center. Currently, it has been working in some cities like Huancayo, Lima, Arequipa and Cusco; and its academic offer is mainly focused on sectors C and D. The main objective of this business consultancy is to identify the key problem that avoids Universidad Continental from achieving its strategic objectives. Consequently, it was identified that the main problem is the lack of consolidation of the A Distancia mode. With the support and information provided by UC, it was determined that the causes of the problem are difficulties that present the following factors: (a) students; (b) teachers, tutors, and mentors; (c) academic activity; and (d) technological infrastructure. Subsequently, based on an internal and external analysis of the UC, a set of alternatives are proposed that allow it to consolidate the A Distancia mode. These solution alternatives are presented in an implementation plan, which has a temporary space of two years, with an estimated cost of S/. 9'278,299 and key factors for its success. To conclude, the expected results and the positive effects of these on the profitability of the organization are exposed.
