Abstract
The following investigation is a descriptive and simple study, which has as main objective to describe the respiratory characteristics and the speech production of children six to eight years old. The results of the investigation confirm that a high percentage of the sample is through oronasal breathing mode (52%) and medium / higher type (69%). Regarding the characteristics of speech production, it was found that 64% did not present alterations, while 36% (27 children) shows alterations of skeletal mucle presenting substitutions (10), omissions (1), distortions (7), and in some cases dos of them as: sustitutions / omission (7) and sustitution / distortion (2). It was evident the major alteration it is present in the fones /s/, /r/, /R/, and the /r/ consonants. At the same time, it was found a major amount of sustitutions of the fone /r/ by /l/, /d/, followed by the fone /R/ which showed sustitution by the fone /l/, /d/ for having the articulation points near to. Additionally, it was found in les amount distortions of the fone /s/. The respiratory alteration affects the skeletal muscle development of the face, which it will have direct incident in the mechanic of other main stomatognathic functions.
