Abstract
The aim of this research is to investigate the process of masculinity construction of adolescents and young people who have been in Youth Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Centers and how this impacts their social reintegration. With an interpretative phenomenological design as a basis, four in-depth interviews were conducted, focusing on three main areas: a) experiences prior to entering the center, b) experiences within the Youth Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Center, and c) the process of social reintegration. The goal was to understand and delve into the experiences and perceptions of the interviewees regarding their masculinities, resulting in findings grouped into four major themes: a) relationships prior to confinement, b) actors of socialization within the center, c) violence as an educator, and d) confinement as a promoter of change. The main conclusion was that the participants' masculinities underwent a process of deconstruction within the centers, leading them to adopt and integrate healthier characteristics, which directly and positively influences their social reintegration process.
