tradicional.
The discussion on abortion in Peru has historically focused almost exclusively on women, often overlooking the responsibilities and roles that men play in reproductive processes. This qualitative research analyzes, from a gender perspective and studies of masculinities, the experiences of eleven Peruvian men aged between 27 and 68 in accompanying (or not) their partners during at least one abortion process. It explores sexual-affective experiences, conceptions of masculinity, knowledge and use of contraceptive methods, as well as beliefs about abortion, while also considering how their religious, moral, and legal views impact this context. The testimonies reveal different forms of support related to abortion. In some cases, a position of dominance is observed, where male participation is limited to material resources. However, there are also examples of equitable relationships, where men unconditionally support their partners, recognizing their rights and decisions, even when they differ from their own. The quality of the romantic relationship influences the assumption of responsibility regarding an abortion. Understanding how men experience abortion is crucial for dismantling myths and fostering responsible participation in reproductive health. Through this analysis, different models of masculinities that challenge the traditional hegemonic model are identified.
