Abstract
El presente estudio tiene por objetivo identificar los principales aspectos que limitan
la producción del Maíz Blanco Gigante Cusco. Para ello se realizó una investigación
cualitativa, descriptiva y transversal, realizándose la recolección de datos durante el segundo
semestre del 2014, realizando 27 entrevistas que fueron dirigidas a los agricultores del Valle
Sagrado en las provincias de Urubamba y Calca del departamento del Cusco.
Los resultados según la investigación realizada muestran que las principales limitantes
a la producción del Maíz Blanco Gigante Cusco, son: (a) el constante cambio de clima, (b) la
presencia de minifundios, (c) escasez de recursos humanos calificados, (d) escasez de agua,
(e) apoyo inadecuado del gobierno, (f) falta de acceso a tecnología para cultivo, (g) falta de
acceso a financiamiento adecuado, h) incremento de enfermedades y plagas y finalmente (i)
falta de abonos y fertilizantes.
Se concluye que la falta de acceso al crédito y la existencia de minifundios son las
principales limitantes para la producción del Maíz Blanco Gigante Cusco, por lo que se
recomienda la asociatividad de los productores del Valle Sagrado para que puedan mejorar el
acceso al crédito, a organismos privados y estatales que mejoren la infraestructura de riego
This research identifies major barriers that limit the production of giant white corn in Cusco. This research was done using a qualitative approach; it is descriptive and transactional, with data collection during the second semester of 2014, conducting 27 interviews were addressed to the Sacred Valley farmers in the provinces of Calca and Urubamba, Cusco region. The results show that the main limitations it is affecting all crops and especially the Cusco giant white corn, according to respondents they are: (a) the constant change of climate, (b) the presence of smallholdings (c) shortage of qualified human resources, (d) water shortages, (e) inadequate government support, (f) the limited use to technology for culture (g) lack of access to adequate funding, (h) the increase of diseases and pests, and finally (i) lack of fertilizers. It is concluded that the lack of access to credit and the existence of small farms are the main constraints for the production of giant Cusco white corn, so the association of producers of the Sacred Valley is recommended so that they can improve access to credit, access to private and state agencies to improve irrigation infrastructure
