Abstract
geriátrico de Lima. Participaron 40 personas (24 varones y 16 mujeres) entre 68 y 92 años (M=80.68;
This research aimed to analyze the relationship between health related quality of life (HRQOL) and sense of coherence (SOC) in a group of older adults from a geriatric center in Lima. 40 elderly people (24 males and 16 females) between 68 and 92 years old (M=80.68; DE= 6.70) participated. The Spanish-adapted versión of SF-36 (Alonso, Prieto y Antó, 1995) was used to measure HRQOL, and SOC-29 questionnaire (Atonovsky, 1993) to measure SOC. At the descriptive level it was found that the participants had a good perception of their health, being the Mental Health dimensión of HRQOL the highest (M=79.50; DE= 15.37) and high SOC, where the highest área was Meaning (M=5.62; DE=0.83). A high correlation was found between Mental Health dimension of HRQOL and Meaning of SOC, and medium correlations between the dimensions General Health, Physical Function, Physical Role and both components (mental and physical health) of HRQOL and SOC áreas, including some with total SOC. In addition, differences in HRQOL were found according to gender, presence of chronic disease, level of education activities outside the home and physical excercise.
