The aim of this research was to explore the self-care experiences of psychotherapists who provide psychotherapy to onco-pediatric patients and their families. They have the task of attending to the psychosocial and psychobiological needs of cancer patients and their families throughout the different stages of the disease, which can be highly stressful. Given this, self-care is positioned as a fundamental element in clinical practice. To explore this, a qualitative phenomenological methodology was conducted with an inductive analysis based on interviews with 8 psychotherapists working with onco-pediatric population. The results were grouped into four themes relating experiences and self-care. The first describes the duality in the impact of clinical practice at both the emotional and physical level, the second highlights self-care as part of the work of the psychotherapist based on their own need to care for the patient, the third details the self-care strategies that each one implements both personally and professionally, and finally, the fourth collects the learning and reflections of self-care, which is defined as a process of feedback between clinical experience and self-knowledge. Thus, this research allows us to deepen and characterise the role that these psychotherapists attribute to self-care in their clinical practice with that psychotherapy.
