This work seeks to identify the contributions of studies on family and school literacy in primary education. To this end, a qualitative approach was employed through the documentary method. The first chapter presents the contributions of the New Literacy Studies (NLS). Likewise, current approaches such as multimodal literacy and digital literacy are incorporated, which constitute new lenses to understand an educational context marked by cultural diversity and technological development. The second chapter specifically addresses the relationship between family literacy and school literacy, with the aim of recognizing the continuities and discontinuities between home and school. In addition, research conducted in Latin America is presented, highlighting the importance of students’ sociocultural context in their school learning related to reading and writing. Finally, it is concluded that the contributions of these studies are fundamental for rethinking and guiding pedagogical practices so that they are culturally relevant and contribute to a more fair education.
