This study aimed to describe the experience of stress and the coping strategies used by young adult university professors who worked remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. To achieve this, an open-ended survey was used as a technique to collect qualitative information on the work-related stress experienced by thirty professors from a private university in the metropolitan area of Lima. The results were organized around two main themes: emerging stressors during the COVID-19 pandemic (categorized into those related to the digital transformation of teaching, those associated with the new domestic conditions of remote work, and those linked to the socioeconomic and health complications during the pandemic); and coping strategies employed in response to these stressors (divided into problem-focused and emotion-focused strategies). Based on the findings, it is evident that the sudden virtualization of work and education due to the health crisis led to the emergence of new stressors both in professional and private/family life. In response, the professors resorted to coping strategies to manage these stressors, as well as strategies to manage the emotional reactions resulting from exposure to them. As educational institutions continue to offer virtual teaching in the wake of the health crisis, this study is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the potential impact of this on the well-being of professors.
