Abstract

One of the most frequent questions that a manager has in his mind is to know if the company must or must not invest in the happiness of its workers and thus improve the profitability of the company (Amador, 2013). This research evaluates the relationship between the happiness of the farm workers in an agricultural company with the productivity of each of the farms to prove that happiness of workers influences the productivity of the company. The research is of the quantitative type, with a non-experimental research design of a transversal and correlational type that allows to identify the happiness of the workers and the productivity of an agricultural company. In order to carry out the research, the happiness variable was determined using the Subjective Happiness Scale (SHS) of Lyubomirsky and Lepper (1999) in its Spanish version translated by Vera, Celis and Córdova (2011) and the productivity variable determined using data from the agricultural company. The correlation between happiness and productivity was close to 0.60 in the comparison of all the productive units of the company and a value close to 1.00 in the comparison of the productive units within the same farm, this result allows to accept the hypothesis that there is a relationship between the happiness of the workers with the productivity of the farms. A recommendation for future research is to investigate other production sectors in order to generalize that happiness positively affects productivity in any type of company. Keywords: happiness, productivity, subjective happiness scale (SHS), agricultural company
