This research addresses the professional identity of Venezuelan migrants in Ica – Peru. Between 2015 and 2025, there has been a massive migratory process, mobilizing a significant number of individuals with university education and experience. However, the Peruvian labor market has not been able to accommodate them all. Therefore, it is interesting to study the effects of underemployment, overqualification, and the loss of status on those migrants who were professionally engaged in Venezuela but must work in other occupations in Peru. It also aims to understand how the migratory process has affected the participants' relationship with their professional identity. Primarily, the interest lies in comprehending how these participants developed and later related to that identity. To achieve this, a qualitative phenomenological research with a thematic approach was conducted. Five Venezuelan migrant participants, residing in Peru for over 6 months, and who practiced their professions in Venezuela for a minimum of 2 years, were included. The results of this research conclude that underemployment has impacted the well-being of migrants by limiting their economic opportunities. Consequently, they have had to modify their lifestyles, causing a sense of discomfort. Additionally, their current relationship with their professional identity is marked by nostalgia and resilience. Although they all long for their professional practice, they recognize the importance of migration in the pursuit of a better future.
