Abstract
The aim of this study is to understand the relational experiences with the therapist of trans men who assist to therapy processes. In order to achieve this, a qualitative multiple case study was carried out involving two trans men who assisted to private psychotherapy processes and the interviews were analyzed under a thematic analysis technique. Five emergent relational themes were found: (1) Closeness, (2) Accompaniment, (3) Guidance, (4) Containment and (5) Recognition. For each theme the representations of the Self and therapist in relation to each other, as well as the way in which the participants experimented the interaction, were described. The relational experiences are discussed around two organizing thematic axes that were consistent with the research about therapy experiences of TGD individuals: (I) Trust seeking; which refers to the experience of being in a relationship where the participants felt understood, listened to and comfortable, and (II) Help seeking; which refers to the expectation of active participation on behalf of their therapist. Finally, technical, and ethical considerations involved in the work with transgender men are discussed around these thematic axes.
