The present investigation addresses the way in which the discourses of history, violence and religion intersect and constitute the meaning of two Peruvian historical novels from the 1990s, Sol de los soles (1998) by Luis Enrique Tord and Yo me perdono (1998) by Fietta Jarque. In order to do this, we have used the concept of contact zone developed by Mary Louise Pratt ([1991] 2010) in which new cultural forms emerge as a result of the unequal encounter between the Andean and Western worlds. Our hypothesis is that in this context, the discourses of history and power, as well as politics and religion, operate as central motifs of both narratives, configuring them. Our analysis developes in two chapters: in the first one, we study the notions of power (Toscano López, 2016) and history (Dussel, 2003) in both novels to conclude that these are intertwined with the structures of the colonial world. In the second one, we use the concepts of hybridity (Pulido Ritter) and conversion (Ramos, [2010], 2017) to study the novel cultural manifestations of the contact zone. For this work, we have used theoretical approaches from literary theory, history and anthropology.
