    Consulting report Mama Qucha
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2023-05-15) Enewoldsen, Falk; Fuchs, Alice; Jiwa, Imaan; Sánchez Paredes, Sandro Alberto
Mama Qucha is a social and environmental Peruvian start-up founded in the year of 2018. The social business has the aim to contribute to a more sustainable world by selling bags and accessories made from recycled plastic produced by female prisoners in Chorrillos, Lima. Mama Qucha’s mission is to save the sea with their products sold and to support women in vulnerable situations by providing them with a secure and well-paid employment. The main problem identified during this consulting project is the material sourcing. Mama Qucha’s most sold product, a thin foldable cloth bag with unique designs, which makes up 80% of the company’s revenue, has not been made from recycled materials up to present which misaligns with the company’s mission. This is mainly owed to the financial scarcity and the limited existing supplier network of the social enterprise. The present thesis is intended to find a suitable future supplier for Mama Qucha to overcome the company’s material sourcing challenge. After specifying the exact requirements to find the most appropriate future business partner of Mama Qucha, extensive secondary research has been conducted which has proven that the Peruvian interim market for recycled materials is still in the early stage of its development. These findings go hand in hand with the difficulty experienced of encountering Peruvian suppliers that could provide Mama Qucha with the desired recycled material for their cloth bag. Therefore, as a final proposed solution it is recommended for Mama Qucha to source its material from the international supplier Waste2Wear.
