Abstract
The present research aims to analyze the relationship between Physical Activity with Perceived Stress and with Emotion Regulation in a group of university students. The participants were 102 students of both sexes, whose ages oscillated between 16-23 years and that they were attending the first cycles in a private university of Lima. The Global Questionnaire on Physical Activity (GPAQ) was used in its version translated into Spanish (WHO, 2007); The Perceived Stress Scale (EEP), in its version translated and validated into Spanish (Remor y Carrobles, 2001) and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQP), adapted for Peru (Gargurevich and Matos, 2010). It was found that Physical Activity inversely correlated with Perceived Stress, whereas no association was found with Emotion Regulation. In addition, a direct relationship was found between the Sedentary Behavior, the final section of the GPAQ and the emotional regulation strategy of Suppression. Finally, we found differences in the strategy of Suppression by sex. The possible explanations of these findings are discussed, the limitations of the investigation are reported and possible future lines of research are proposed.
