Tinctogramas: El gesto caligráfico como dibujo lingüístico

Resumen
Distintas posturas han surgido sobre si el lenguaje es el que influye en la manera
en la que pensamos o si el fenómeno se da al revés. Evidentemente esto se ve
luego reflejado en los respectivos sistemas de escritura y nos hace
cuestionarnos si el acto de transmitir pensamiento que se ha vuelto automático.
Desde la relación lenguaje-pensamiento surgen preguntas acerca del porqué de
las diferencias entre lenguas a pesar de tener el mismo fin de comunicar ideas.
¿Qué rol cumple la escritura y cuáles serían sus parámetros? De estos debates,
propongo pensar la lengua como el compartir pensamientos y la escritura como
el registro de pensamientos a través de movimientos hechos trazos.
Tinctogramas, es un ejercicio especulativo de un pseudo-idioma basado en
gestos caligráficos que condensan ideas compactadas, donde se busca
cuestionar los parámetros de la escritura y dar opción a un sistema de escritura
expresivo que funcione como idioma por sí mismo. Las metodologías que se
dieron para el desarrollo de este proyecto fueron la investigación de gabinete,
trabajo de campo con estudiantes extranjeros, experimentación con materiales
e instrumentos y la creación del sistema tinctogramas a partir de múltiples
pruebas y ensayos. Finalmente, la información recopilada del proyecto se
encuentra disponible en 7 libros en idiomas diferentes que forma parte del
conjunto de obra, en compañía de la pieza principal “Aprender a Pensar con la
mano” y la pieza “Entender significado es leer líneas”.
Different positions have arisen as to whether it is language that influences the way we think or whether the phenomenon is the other way around. Evidently this is then reflected in the respective writing systems and makes us question whether the act of transmitting thought has become automatic. From the language-thought relationship, questions arise as to why there are differences between languages despite having the same purpose of communicating ideas. What is the role of writing and what are its parameters? From these debates, I propose to think of language as the sharing of thoughts and writing as the recording of thoughts through movements made with strokes. Tinctograms, is a speculative exercise of a pseudo-language based on calligraphic gestures that condense compacted ideas, where we seek to question the parameters of writing and give option to an expressive writing system that functions as a language by itself. The methodologies used for the development of this project were desk research, field work with foreign students, experimentation with materials and instruments, and the creation of the tinctogram system based on multiple tests and trials. Finally, the information gathered from the project is available in 7 books in different languages that are part of the body of work, together with the main piece “Learning to Think with the hand” and the piece “To understand meaning is to read lines”.
