Abstract
cuestionario EDI (Early Development Instrument).
The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the teachers’ perspective on the challenges of their students in their transition from one level to another in the socio-emotional dimension. Eight teachers were interviewed, four from preschool (five years), and four from the first year of obligatory schooling from a private school in Metropolitan Lima. The sample was selected by intentional selection. The information gathering was carried out through semi-structured interviews that had as a reference the questions applied in the EDI. The results show that the teachers' expectations are in accordance with what is proposed by the theory. However, it was possible to identify that teachers perceive that children who go from preschool to the first year of obligatory schooling encounter difficulties in the development of capacities such as independence and the regulation of behavior and emotions. Finally, the challenges identified by teachers in students were: performing tasks that required paying attention or to be seated more than five minutes, being able to understand the simple instructions that can be given during the classes and perform simple tasks that were according to their age.
