The aim of this study was to know situations of experienced stigma in a group of people diagnosed with schizophrenia during his first hospitalization in a psychiatric institution in Lima, for which, a group of 12 users of the institution were asked for a semi-structured interview. Different experiences of stigma were found both at the individual and social and mostly were related to health professionals (psychiatrists and nurses). Among the main experiences are situations where they have received offensive comments or adjectives, have witnessed or experienced situations of oppression and mechanical fastening, have been experienced social distancing or been abandoned by their families. Also, these experiences have generated an impact in their lives, many of which have led them to reflect on themselves, their behavior, their future plans and their possible re-entry to society.
