Abstract
In the framework of knowing the role of education in the process of structuring collective identity, based on the cultural meanings involved in it, the present study aims at analyzing the main representations regarding the construction of national identity in third grade elementary school students of a private institution in Lima. The research methodology is qualitative in approach and descriptive in scope, from which it is intended to collect and identify the notions of identity elements to detail the way in which national identity is manifested and developed in a classroom, so it has been proposed to work with six informants, through documentary analysis and interview. The theoretical foundation is based on the identity motivations proposed by Vignoles et al. (2006), as well as on the objective and subjective referents proposed by Renaut (as cited in Bahena, 2014). Likewise, the research is developed within the scope of the school curriculum, specifically a course corresponding to the curricular area of Social Personnel. One of the most significant findings of the study are the identity elements obtained in the family and school contexts, which allow them to acquire a sense of self-awareness to have a positive representation of their own image, intervening in their integral development.
