Eating disorders, a problem primarily present in young women, are a multi-causal phenomenon with a cultural component shaped by beauty standards portrayed in the media, particularly in K-pop. The primary consumers of this musical genre are young women, and experimental research has demonstrated its influence on their body satisfaction. Therefore, the objective of this research was to explore social representations of feminine beauty among young female Kpop fans from Metropolitan Lima. Seven cisgender women, aged 19 to 24, who belonged to a group that performed K-pop choreography, participated. A qualitative methodology was used, with an inductive thematic analysis design. Regarding the results, the participants identified that, in both Peruvian and South Korean cultures, there is a beauty standard similar to the hegemonic Western one. In the case of South Korea, it is perceived as more demanding on women's physiques. This is evident in K-pop, where artists resort to methods considered a risk to their health. Furthermore, when thinking about "female beauty," participants point to aspects of women's physicality, personality, and attitude. To elaborate this idea of beauty, they point to the role of different socializing agents, such as their peers, feminism, and K-pop. The latter, while promoting a broad representation of beauty, also places greater emphasis on physical appearance, demonstrating that this cultural phenomenon does not entirely exclude the hegemonic perspective of beauty.
