Abstract
This paper considers the value of metaphors, and analyzes Freud´s archaeology metaphor in depth. The archaeological metaphor condenses psychoanalytical fundamentals: i.e., the idea of temporality and the psychoanalytical explorer´s perspective from the viewpoint of both topographical and structural theories. In contrast with the object in archaeology, psychoanalysis works with a live object. In itself this promotes the analytic task of construction and has been taken up by postfreudians. Both Freudian mental apparatus theories are discussed as well as their implicancies for the change of perspective from the psychoanalytic researcher point of view.
