Abstract
The present work is an exploratory study that seeks to describe quantitatively, through non-random sampling, the culture of water, both the cognitive and behavioral components, in two districts of Metropolitan Lima: La Molina, which has a high domestic water consumption and San Martin de Porres, which has an intermediate domestic water consumption. The methodology was based on a survey that evaluates knowledge about the problem of water scarcity, socio-environmental importance of water, concern about scarcity and shortages, and about water saving habits. Subsequently, the amount of water used in each domestic activity was indirectly measured in ten households in each district, through a self-report study that lasted one week. It was determined that the concern for the scarcity and shortage of water directly affects the behavior towards water resources and that the activity that generates the highest consumption is bathing in the shower, representing 54% of total consumption, being in turn time the main activity that causes the difference between water consumption in La Molina and San Martin de Porres, whose volume difference is 130 liters per person per week.
