literarias y filosóficas (Gadamer, Arendt, Rorty, Eco, Davison, Alazraki, Reisz,
The present research work has as its main objective to prove that fantastic literature -which we call "mode" (in the line of I. Bessière) has the purpose of expanding reality through the particular use of rhetorical figures such as metaphor, symbol and allegory, and certain strategies of utilization of what we can call "the peculiar". For its realization, theoretical sources on what reality is have been explored, in order to determine the starting point of its enlargement and its possibilities of unveiling; the mentioned rhetorical figures (metaphor, symbol and allegory) and some literary texts of the fantastic genere of canonical authors of the genere have been briefly analyzed as examples for the consolidation of the theory. The texts consulted for the research correspond to literary and philosophical sources (Gadamer, Arendt, Rorty, Eco, Davison, Alazraki, Reisz, Bobes, Jackson, among others). The main conclusions of the present work are that the fantastic mode unveils or creates reality; it is not born in a particular era, but has always existed; and it relies on a series of rhetorical figures and narrative procedures to enhance reality, through the insertion of the strange element both at a formal and semantic level.
