In the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín, Western thinking established since the sixteenth century is in conflict with the ancestral relationships of the native population and the natural environment. At present, Lima faces an identity and urban crisis due to the limited introspection of its landscape and the biased reading of its historiography. The erosion of fragile ecosystems especially lomas1 and wetlands due to urban expansion, and the low imageability, borrowing Kevin Lynch's term, of archaeological sites in the urban imaginary, reveal a lack of sensitivity and appreciation of the original legacy, on the side of the citizenship and the government. After studying about original urbanism, historical urban landscape, and wayfinding, I propose that the projects and interventions reviewed share the traditional archaeological-museistic character by visualizing and projecting heritage as pieces to be admired mainly for their historical and aesthetic value. From the perspective of Systems and Experiential Design, there is a gap of innovation for a socio-natural and amodern approach of Lima’s landscape that revalues the historic urban layout and its archaeological sites, using integrated physical-digital strategies and public-private institutional relationships. We thus aim to address these challenges with LimaHuaca – Urban Expeditions Metropolitan System, an urban system that leads a transformative experience of reimagining historic urban landscape of Lima through urban expeditions, facilitating and promoting the reformulation of identity and urban discourses through active mobility and cultural tourism. After conducting a series of studies following the Double Diamond methodology, the desirability, feasibility, and viability of the design proposal was assured, as well as the potential for transforming the image of the archaeological sites and systematizing the urban heritage.
