sexual, pueden ser víctimas de bifobia por parte de la comunidad heterosexual y LGBTIQ+;
hombres mostraron mayor propensión a consumir drogas y/o alcohol, y tener relaciones
This research aims to explore the subjective experiences of the process of disclosure of sexual identity of young cisgender bisexual men and women in Metropolitan Lima. Particularly, it sought to investigate the convergences and particularities in the coming out experience of men and women and to identify the factors that intervene the process. Therefore, a qualitative research with interpretative phenomenological design was carried out with the participation of four bisexual men and women. The results indicate that the beginning of the process is marked by heterosexism and internalized biphobia. Likewise, at the moment of disclosing their sexual orientation, individuals may become victims of biphobia from both the heterosexual and LGBTIQ+ community; thus, social support emerges as an influential variable in their mental health during this process. Additionally, gender - specific risk behaviors were identified, men showed a greater propensity to consume drugs and/or alcohol in unprotected sexual relations. Regarding prejudices, participants noted a social imagery that associates bisexual women with promiscuity, while bisexual men are often labeled as closeted gay individuals. Moreover, the ways of exploring their bisexuality vary by gender. Finally, this research emphasizes the importance of affirming one’s identity to achieve visibility, create spaces for representation, and benefit mental health, among other factors.
