Abstract
The aim of this research was to study the psychometric properties of the Situations in Schools questionnaire in a sample of 178 college teachers. The questionnaire, originally designed for school teachers, has 4 scales theoretically related: autonomy support, control, structure, chaos. For this study, the questionnaire was translated and adapted to the college context, an exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted, the instrument´s internal consistency was analyzed, as well as the correlations between scales and the descriptive statistics. Also, a Multidimensional Scaling was used to explore the similarities of the items and to locate them in a multidimensional space. The results show that the 4-scale model was suitable for the questionnaire. However, item 1 showed lower factor loading than the rest of the item so it´s advisable to study it meticulously. The Multidimensional Scaling organized the items into 3 main groups: (1) control scale items, (2) chaos scale items and (3) autonomy support and structure items. Finally, there is a strong positive correlation between structure and autonomy-support, a moderate negative correlation between structure and chaos, and a mild positive correlation between structure and chaos and between chaos and control.
