The central purpose of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility of blueberries as an input for the cosmetic industry, emphasizing their potential to generate competitive advantages in the global market, as well as to identify opportunities for innovation, sustainability, and productive diversification that contribute to the development of an industry based on natural inputs. In a context of increasing demand for skincare cosmetics, this research gains relevance by exploring how a traditional agro-export product, through which Peru has positioned itself as one of the world’s leading producers and exporters, can be transformed into a high value-added ingredient, creating new opportunities and strengthening the competitiveness of the Peruvian cosmetic industry. The literature review confirms that blueberries, due to their antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and photoprotective properties, can be used as an ingredient in cosmetic products. However, it also points out the need to continue scientific research to verify the efficacy of their application in cosmetic formulations. On the other hand, interviews conducted with industry representatives reveal that, although they are not yet familiar with the use of blueberries in cosmetics, since their business focus mainly relies on natural and organic ingredients derived from Peruvian biodiversity, they unanimously recognize the value of the country’s biodiversity as a strategic strength. Likewise, they point out that the industry faces significant challenges such as limited technological infrastructure, strict regulatory requirements, and weak coordination among producers, researchers, and companies. Finally, the study recommends promoting collaborative research projects between public and private institutions, fostering the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and strengthening the value chain through strategic alliances, training programs, and technical assistance.
