Abstract

The purpose of this investigation is to identify goals and values among the members of an actual counter cultural movement form Lima, Peru. Twenty open answer structured questionnaire were applied. The three highest scoring goals were Family, Spirituality and Love. In addition, two unusual goals were found in the sample compared to other groups studied before. These goals were: Taking care of the planet and Drugs. The three highest scoring values were Desire for improvement, Love, and Making social changes. Similarities between historical countercultural movements and the one studied were found. It is observed that the members of the presented movement are developing practices where they mix New Age rituals with some of the Native American cultures, in which local and foreign psychotropic plants are used. Finally, three central cores in the developing of the movement were observed: the physical space for gathering, marihuana´s predominance, among other drugs, as an axis of social cohesion and the resistance of this group to the predominant way of life and the search and the transmission of an alternative model.
