Sobrecarga y afrontamiento en familiares cuidadores de personas con esquizofrenia

Abstract

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre el nivel de Sobrecarga del Cuidador y las Estrategias de Afrontamiento en familiares de pacientes con esquizofrenia en Rehabilitación. Con dicho fin, se aplicaron la Escala de Sobrecarga del Cuidador de Zarit y el Cuestionario de Estimación del Afrontamiento a 33 familiares de pacientes con esquizofrenia en rehabilitación. Se encontraron correlaciones entre la sobrecarga y algunas estrategias de afrontamiento específicas. Del mismo modo, se observaron diferencias significativas evidenciando que según el sexo del cuidador, el tiempo de cuidado y la fase de rehabilitación, los cuidadores pueden hacer uso de diferentes estrategias de afrontamiento.The aim of this study was to identify the association between caregiver’s burden and coping strategies in relatives of patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia in rehabilitation. A group of 33 relatives of patients were assessed using the Zarit’s Caregivers Burden Scale and the Coping Estimation Inventory. Significant correlations between caregiver’s burden and some specific coping strategies were found. Similarly, significant differences were found among other characteristics, showing that according to the sex of the caregiver, time of caregiving and phase of rehabilitation, caregivers use different coping strategies.
