Abstract
This thesis seeks to describe the relationship between social bonds with their peers and their own permanence in school as identified by the provincial students of the Beca Vocación de Maestro (Teacher Vocational Scholarship) in a private university at Lima, Peru. Its theoretical frame comes from the line of research dealing with the students’ culture, which is included in turn within the line of educational institution culture. The diverse links between pairs constructed by the students are identified, as well as the predictive factors of permanence in school for the studied population. This research has a phenomenological character. The instrument used to gather information is a semi-structured interview script about experiences and evaluations of the students. The information has been manually coded and categorized. The research finds that the relationships that scholarshipholding students from provinces forge constitute one of their main ways of mutual support to face life on their own and to stay firm in higher education.
